Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Mystery can strike anywhere-a speeding train, a lonely lighthouse, an ordinary restaurant, a quiet home, or even among a family of magical woodcarvings. In Mystery in the Village, Reily Mary Scott brings together seven short stories filled with murder, deception, supernatural chills, unexpected twists, and just enough humor to remind readers that danger sometimes arrives wearing a smile. In "Cora and the Train Murder Mystery," Cora Gudmundson is returning home after an unforgettable journey to London when a fellow passenger is discovered dead aboard the train. With Pittsburgh rapidly approaching and a killer possibly among the passengers, Cora joins forces with her friend Willie Benson and New York police officer John Embrey. Suspects multiply, secrets surface, and Cora receives a little unusual assistance from the magical Villagers Arve and Ola as she races to uncover the truth before someone slips away.Other stories venture into darker and stranger territory. In "Murder at Shell Cove Lighthouse," a terrified woman flees through a dark lighthouse while mysterious men pursue her up its twisting stairs-but nothing inside the old tower is quite what it seems. "He Had a Wife" explores obsession, jealousy, and the terrifying lengths someone will go to possess what she believes should have been hers. And in "A Deadly Lesson," three women stumble upon an envelope marked KILL HER, drawing them into what appears to be a murder conspiracy where curiosity may carry a terrible price.Even familiar comforts can conceal unsettling secrets. In "Her Husband's Brownies Never Tasted So Good," a wife enjoys her husband's irresistible chocolate brownies while old resentments creep into their conversation and suspicion begins to overshadow every bite. Meanwhile, the magical Villagers bring a lighter kind of trouble in "The Night of the Living Band Saw," where mischievous twins Kel and Uda turn an ordinary woodworking tool into the stuff of nightmares-and frighten their fellow Villagers with a tale that grows more outrageous with every thunderclap. The mischief continues in "Kel's and Uda's First Halloween Night Out," when the six-inch twins finally receive permission to go trick-or-treating with Holly-provided they remain safely disguised as canaries inside a reinforced birdcage. Ian and Christina have taken every precaution imaginable. Unfortunately, precautions have never stopped Kel and Uda for long. Blending historical mystery, psychological suspense, supernatural surprises, dark irony, family warmth, and magical humor, Mystery in the Village offers a collection for readers who enjoy short mysteries where appearances deceive, motives hide beneath the surface, and the final turn may change everything they thought they knew.
