Fifteen years after the brutal death of his father, Mackie, six-year-old Sam has grown into a young man carrying an anger he has never been able to escape.Raised by his aunt Bridget and haunted by memories of the father he barely had time to know, Sam becomes obsessed with the one man he believes is responsible for Mackie's death: Ray Mercer, a huge and feared bare-knuckle fighter from the underground world his father once inhabited.Under the guidance of Costel, the same fighter and mentor who knew Mackie, Sam learns the brutal art of bare-knuckle fighting. Every punch, every cut and every scar brings him closer to the revenge he has promised himself for fifteen years. When whispers reveal that Mercer is still fighting, Sam finally gets the opportunity he has been waiting for.Their meeting becomes a savage, blood-soaked battle fuelled by hatred, grief and fifteen years of anger. Both men are badly hurt, but when Mercer finally knocks Sam to the ground, he believes the fight is over. Laughing, he taunts Sam with the words that cut deeper than any punch: "Can't get up? Just like your dad."As Mercer prepares to deliver the final blow, Sam hears a voice he hasn't heard since he was a child. His father's."Get up, Sam."What follows is a final burst of fury as Sam rises and unleashes everything he has carried for fifteen years, battering Mercer to the ground. With Mercer helpless beneath him and the crowd screaming for revenge, Sam raises his foot for the final blow. Then his father's voice returns."Walk away, son. Do the thing that I would never do. Walk away. I'm proud of you. You're better than this. Don't be me."In that single moment, Sam faces the greatest fight of his life. Not against Mercer.Against himself. In the Name of My Father is a brutal and emotional story of revenge, family, loyalty and redemption, set deep inside the dangerous world of bare-knuckle fighting. It is the story of a son who spends fifteen years trying to avenge his father's death, only to discover that the greatest way to honour him is not to become the man who died-but to become the man his father always wanted him to be.
