Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

One forgotten inn. Six women who refused to let anyone go hungry. And a promise from the past that Rose Whitmore must decide whether to keep alive.Rose Whitmore has spent eleven months learning how to live with an empty chair at her own table.Widowed after her husband's sudden death, she has little left in Lexington except memories she would rather not face. So when a letter informs her that she has inherited a long-abandoned inn in the small Kentucky town of Maple Ridge, Rose sees it as a reason to start over. She doesn't expect the house to feel alive with memories. She certainly doesn't expect to find a forgotten register hidden inside its great stone hearth. The book records the work of six women who, during the brutal winter of 1887, made a simple promise: No chair at our table will remain empty if we can help it.For decades, the Hearth Club fed hungry families, sheltered travelers, helped widows, found work for the desperate, and quietly carried Maple Ridge through its hardest seasons. Then the club disappeared. Now Rose has found its story.Determined to restore the abandoned inn and honor the women who built it, she begins opening her doors again. With the help of Martha Ellis, librarian Lydia Brooks, Sheriff Harper, and a quiet blacksmith named Jacob Mercer, Rose slowly turns the cold, forgotten house back into a place where neighbors gather around a shared table. But the old register contains more than stories of kindness. It contains clues to a decades-old injustice.Six Maple Ridge families once lost their land under suspicious circumstances, and the same powerful Frankfort firm appears in every case. When Rose begins asking questions, an elegant lawyer arrives with a frightening claim against her inheritance. Then comes a foreclosure notice. And finally, a fire.Someone wants Rose to stop digging into the past-and they are willing to destroy the house to make sure its secrets remain buried. But Rose has already learned something the women of the original Hearth Club understood long before her: A fire can be extinguished. A house can be damaged. A person can be frightened. But a promise carried from one generation to the next is much harder to destroy. As Rose fights to save the inn, uncover the truth, and protect the families whose stories were nearly erased, she finds something she never believed possible after Charlie's death: a new home, a new purpose, and a second chance at love.Because sometimes healing doesn't mean forgetting the person you lost.Sometimes it means finding the courage to build something beautiful with what remains. If you love emotional historical fiction, courageous women, small-town secrets, slow-burn romance, family history, community, and powerful stories of hope and second chances, open the door to Maple Ridge.Pull up a chair.
