Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Afghanistan, 2011.After nearly five months on deployment, a serviceman begins writing down the thoughts he can no longer keep inside his own head. What follows is not a conventional military memoir reconstructed years later. The Deranged Ramblings of a Fragile Mind is a diary written during the deployment itself, capturing boredom, exhaustion, fear, frustration, absurdity and the dark humour that emerges when normal life feels very far away. The entries move without warning between patrols and military routine, arguments with flies, observations about the people around him, increasingly strange trains of thought, and moments when the reality of Afghanistan cuts through the humour completely.Presented substantially as it was written at the time, the grammar, fragmented thinking and rough edges have deliberately been retained. There are no lessons written with hindsight and no attempt to turn the experience into something cleaner than it was.Just the ramblings that made it onto the page.Published under the pen name J. R. Hale.Content warning: Contains strong language, dark and graphic humour, references to violence and death, psychological distress, adult themes and crude expressions.
