Operation Morrigan was the code name selected by the Provisional IRA for an operation to shoot down an RAF trooper aircraft bringing a company of the Parachute Regiment soldiers into Northern Ireland. It starts at pace in the Mediterranean Island of Malta, then moves swiftly to Ireland, North and South. Most of the tense action takes place in Northern Ireland, particularly in the Greater Belfast Area. It features places that became almost household names during the so-called Troubles, such as the Ardoyne, the Divis Flats, and Andersonstown. The gritty characters bring their motives and personal troubles to the story. This allows the reader to see, in very simple terms, where their motivation was coming from and why they were on their chosen paths. The basic human emotions of love, loss, jealousy, and greed continue to play their part. There is a level of violence and tension in the novel commensurate with that dramatic period of Belfast's turbulent history. The efforts of the British Army to use double agents and the consequences are also brought dramatically into focus. As are the acute dangers of human source intelligence gathering, Tout handling. Hopefully, the book keeps a fairly neutral bias, as the author believes to a large extent that most of us are prisoners of our birthplace and family circumstances.
