Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

A calm, immersive way to learn European Portuguese through story.First Steps: Bilingual European Portuguese-English Stories is part of a unique 52-story language learning system designed for adult learners who want to acquire Portuguese naturally through reading, not memorisation or drills.Set in a quietly unfolding Portuguese neighbourhood-where morning cafés open slowly, local markets fill with familiar voices, old apartment buildings reveal new neighbours, and everyday routines begin to feel like home-each story follows Ana as she settles into a new life, discovering the small connections and simple moments that transform an unfamiliar place into a community. The writing blends clear, accessible language with authentic Portuguese storytelling, creating a reading experience that feels closer to a collection of literary short stories than a traditional language textbook. Through cafés, conversations, walks through the neighbourhood, and ordinary discoveries, meaning grows naturally through context, repetition, and emotional connection. This book follows a structured 52-story progressive learning method designed to develop fluency through natural exposure, narrative repetition, and meaningful engagement. Each book contains four interconnected stories that gradually increase in difficulty, allowing learners to progress comfortably while building confidence.Beginning at the A2 level, these stories introduce more natural dialogue, increased use of the past tense, longer sentence structures, and richer descriptions of everyday life. Core vocabulary is carefully recycled from previous stages, while new words are introduced gradually and reinforced through context.Rather than explaining grammar or teaching vocabulary lists, this method allows Portuguese to be absorbed through experience, by following characters, noticing patterns, and becoming part of their world.Perfect for learners moving beyond beginner Portuguese.
