A thousand years after his defeat, the Son of Dawn escapes the Great Void-bringing demons, political betrayal, and a collapsing utopia in his wake. In this Christian speculative epic fantasy, the eternal realm and material world begin to converge, and only a forgotten manuscript warns that an ancient enemy has returned.Kalithas Chamar, a prideful lieutenant of the Civilian Protection Authority, arrives on Announcement Day expecting a promotion. Instead, he's thrust into the first violent crime wave since the final war ten centuries earlier. His investigation reveals a horrifying truth: demon have invaded the heartland, beginning with an Emberbane attack that shakes him to his core.Visions of Gommra, the place of eternal judgment, leave Kalithas questioning whether he's seeing someone else's past or his own future. As more demons emerge, he barely survives a brutal encounter that forces him into emergency surgery-and into the political crossfire of Cedarfield's charismatic mayor, Bylan Thomas.Everything changes when Judith Brockman, a distraught mountain farmer, begs for help finding her husband, taken by fire-dwelling demons. Their search exposes the Son of Dawn's growing influence, the Council's corruption, and a world fracturing under fear. A bond forms between Kalithas and Judith as they flee assassination attempts, uncover ancient symbols tied to the final war, and witness entire towns consumed by demonic forces. When Thomas falls under the Son of Dawn's control, the militia and demon army merge into a single command. Kalithas and Judith must choose between loyalty to the Council or saving the people the Council refuses to protect. Their missions lead them into demon-infested caverns, awakening pools, and a deadly train yard-where they survive only through Weaver's divine intervention. As the world severs ties with the nation and the Council turns against them, Kalithas releases a global message exposing the truth. Evacuations begin, marked by triumph, sacrifice, and devastating loss. Judith's grief transforms into vengeance, while Kalithas reveals the burden of being a long-lifer, deepening their fragile trust. In the final confrontation, Kalithas learns his actions have confirmed the ancient prophecy: He is the Defender of Dawn. From atop the Lasting building, he watches lights gathering from every direction-an army approaching a defenseless city. His triumph becomes terror, as the weight of protecting an entire society settles upon him.
