THE FIRST PASSIONWhat happens when love enters the heart before we have learned its name?In the flowering world of Vraja, beside the Yamuna and beneath the kadamba trees, Radha and Krishna encounter one another for the first time.Radha does not yet understand the strange feeling awakening within her. Krishna, seeing her, discovers a longing he cannot explain. A glance becomes a question. A question becomes longing. And slowly, two hearts begin to move towards one another.Inspired by the love songs of Vidyapati, the celebrated medieval poet of Mithila, The First Passion is a lyrical story-poem about the awakening of first love.Through the voices and experiences of Radha, Krishna, and their companions, the poem follows the delicate journey from innocence to desire, from hesitation to courage, and from longing to meeting. The story unfolds through:The Invitation - a doorway into the world where love is about to awaken. The Blossoming of Radha - when Radha begins to change and discovers feelings she cannot yet name.Krishna Sees Radha - the moment Krishna's attention is captured by a mysterious and unforgettable presence.Radha Sees Krishna - when curiosity becomes attraction and attraction becomes longing. The Counsels of Sakhis - as Radha's companions recognize what she herself struggles to express.Radha Meets Krishna - when the distance between two hearts finally begins to disappear.Radha Goes to Krishna - when longing gives way to courage and love takes its first decisive step. At the heart of the poem is a universal experience: the first time another person becomes unforgettable. For readers who already know the story of Radha and Krishna, The First Passion offers a fresh literary encounter with a beloved tradition. For readers discovering them for the first time, it provides an intimate doorway into the poetic world of medieval India and the enduring songs of Vidyapati. This is not a literal translation of Vidyapati's poetry. It is a new English-language story-poem inspired by the emotional world of his love songs. A story of first love.A story of longing before it has a name. A story of the moment two hearts discover one another.
