Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

They called it das Frauenhöllenlager, the women's hell. It was the only Nazi concentration camp built exclusively for women, and for eighty years, it has been the Holocaust's best-kept secret.Political prisoners. Romani mothers. Prostitutes and lesbians. Resistance fighters who sang forbidden anthems in the shadow of the gas chamber. Nearly 133,000 women from forty nations passed through Ravensbrück's gates, and the stories of what was done to their bodies have gone largely untold, buried by shame, scholarly neglect, and eighty years of silence. The Women's Hell breaks that silence. Tracing a direct, chilling line from Weimar Germany's sexual revolution to the eugenic theories that justified mass sterilization, forced abortion, and systematic sexual violence, this is the first book to give precise names to the atrocities Ravensbrück's women endured, and the courage with which they survived them. This is history that refuses to look away.
