Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Every Eastern Star member knows the five heroines. Few have met them as the Bible tells their stories. For more than 170 years, the Order of the Eastern Star has taught the virtues of Adah, Ruth, Esther, Martha, and Electa through brief ritual portraits. Each is given a virtue, a color, and an emblem, and each is remembered in a few moments. Those portraits are beautiful. But they are also selective, and the full stories in Scripture are deeper, harder, and more hopeful than any lecture can hold.In Heroines through the Ritual Mirror, Dr. Douglas Reece, President of Wycliffe School of Theology and a longtime member of the Order, places each ritual portrait beside its complete biblical narrative. With gratitude for the Order and fidelity to the Bible, he shows how a ritual receives a story, reframes it, and remembers it, and what a reader gains by returning to the text itself.Inside you will discover:How Rob Morris built the five points in the winter of 1850, and why he chose these five womenThe full biblical story behind each heroine: Jephthah's daughter (Adah), Ruth, Esther, Martha of Bethany, and the elect lady of 2 JohnThe three things every ritual does to a story (selection, compression, and naming) and what tends to fall awayWhy each heroine received her color and emblemThe history of the Prince Hall Eastern StarHow to read the heroines toward Christ without flattening the biblical textA ready-to-use chapter study series, discussion questions, a glossary, and a full Scripture indexThis book honors the privacy of the Order. It quotes nothing from the current ritual and draws only on early public sources and on Scripture.Ideal for Worthy Matrons and Star Points, chapter education programs, Masonic educators, pastors, and women's Bible study groups.Open the mirror, and meet the heroines as Scripture knows them.
