Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Why do stories of devastating floods appear in cultures separated by oceans and centuries? What did ancient people see in the sky when they told of fire, darkness, and worlds swept away?In Catastrophism, Ancient Skies, and Flood Myths, the author follows those accounts back through the surviving texts, archaeological evidence, and physical traces of ancient upheaval. He asks where the stories agree, where they contradict one another, and whether a remembered disaster lies behind any of them. This is a book willing to take ancient witnesses seriously without pretending that every flood tale describes the same event. It puts bold claims under pressure and follows the evidence wherever it holds. For readers drawn to the possibility that the past was more violent-and more closely watched by those who lived through it-than the familiar account allows, the question is irresistible: What happened, and what did humanity remember?
