Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

In the little Andean town of Killac, a young couple newly come from Lima befriend an Indian family crushed by the debts and cruelties of the parish priest, the governor, and the judge.Their kindness sets a tragedy in motion - and lays bare the whole machinery of a society built on the backs of its poorest, down to a secret that binds the powerful to the powerless by blood.First published in 1889, Aves sin nido was the opening cry of Spanish-American indigenismo and the boldest work of Clorinda Matto de Turner (1852-1909) - journalist, editor, and one of the bravest women of her century, whose frankness earned her excommunication and, at last, exile. Here in the anonymous public-domain English translation of 1904.Freshly typeset in two parts behind an original mixed-media cover illustration by JVB Atelier Designs.
