Christ and the Wretched of the Earth is a collection of two essays. The first essay, "The Religion of the Missionaries," explores the role which missionary work in Africa played in the colonial conquest of Africa. The second essay, "Christ and the Wretched of the Earth," explores the history of Christianity as a religion which has promoted justice and liberation for the poor and oppressed, in contrast with how Christianity has also been utilized as a means to justify the exploitation of the poor.
