Krio is one of Sierra Leone's national languages and a member of the family of languages called Creoles. This Anthology of Krio poetry illustrates how far the language has traveled. The themes range from politics to the ongoing changes in the structure of the Krio language. The variety of authors, who come from different ethnic backgrounds including native speakers of the language, shows the language now established as an artistic vehicle through which the national character can emerge. The orthography used in this anthology is the one recommended by the Ministry of Education and Technology n Sierra Leone.About the editorsSheikh Umar Kamarah is currently a Professor of English and Linguistics at Virginia State University, in the United States of America. He has written two volumes of poetry and a grammar book on Temne (KI) Themne, as well as several book chapters, and articles in refereed journals on linguistics and literature. He earned a B.A. (Hons) in English from Fourth Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, an M.A. in linguistics from Leeds University in England, and a Ph.D. in African linguistics from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.Mrs. Marjorie Jones is a fashion designer and painter. She has held various positions on the editorial board of African Literature Today, which has been described as 'one of the best authoritative journals of African Literature...'. Mrs. Jones has served as Editorial Assistant, Assistant editor, and later along with her husband, as Editor of African Literature Today.
