Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

THE RETURN OF MARYAfter fourteen exceptionally long years, Mary Bentley, who was missing since the age of five, has at last been found by her mum through what most would consider a profound miracle. Now a young woman, she must learn to reacquaint herself with her biological family, who are essentially strangers to her.But what will happen to the relationship between Mary and the loving Irish couple who raised her as their own for all of those years? The O'shays live a simple life on a rural farm in Dixon, England, with very few luxuries, but they have given Mary a God-fearing home where she was taught to be humble and kind.Or does Mary decide to pursue a life in America, where her wealthy parents own a large, prosperous plantation with servants in southern Alabama? It is quite clear that they would be able to provide her with the finer things in life, but is this what nineteen-year-old Mary wants for her future? She has always been quite content living a simple life in England, and of course, there is James to consider, the young man she has recently fallen in love with.Mary is extremely torn but knows that a decision needs to be made as her birth family will soon return to their home in America. To think of being separated from them again so soon is absolutely heartbreaking.Travel back in time to the year 1926, when the years of the 'Great Depression' loom not far off in the distance, and delve into the lives of the Bentley family and others that they hold dear. Prepare for a journey around the globe to immerse yourself in cultures vastly different from your own. From the vineyards of Teramo, Italy, to the deep south of Mobile, Alabama, and then on to England, you will learn how one family adapts and learns from the diverse cultures that they meet along the way.A story of family ties, joy, and despair, but most of all a historic tale that tells of the tenacity of a family that perseveres and adapts to relatable life experiences and major world events as they present themselves. What was life like over a hundred years ago? Let this story take you there so you can find out for yourself.
