The Girl in the ChurchyardIn 1908, eight-year-old Meg McQuarrie lives a lonely life with her overprotective Granny. Meg longs to play outside with other children and have friends of her own. When she finally gets enough nerve to break Granny's rules, she meets twelve new friends in the churchyard next to Grace Presbyterian Church. However, Meg can't seem to go with them whenever they leave the churchyard. How can Meg break the spell? And how long can she hide her secret adventures from Granny without getting caught? In 1998, thirteen-year-old Beth Herlemann is excited to spend a week with her best friend Mandy Prescott as helpers for their hometown Vacation Bible School. But Beth and Mandy soon realize that their twelve-student class becomes thirteen whenever the students play outside in the churchyard. Who is the thirteenth child, and why doesn't she come inside for crafts, snacks, or story time? Beth and Mandy are determined to solve the mystery and figure out how to help the girl - but what if the girl is a ghost?______________________Valerie Van Orman holds a Ph.D. in communication studies and is a university professor in Pennsylvania, where she lives with her husband and two kittens.
