Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

What if stillness is not the opposite of learning, but the condition that makes it possible?Modern schooling often mistakes constant motion for progress: bells to the minute, pacing guides, recess sacrificed to test preparation, and teachers stretched past recovery. Yet decades of research in cognitive neuroscience, environmental psychology, developmental science, and occupational health tell a different story: the brain learns, consolidates, and makes meaning during the pauses in between.Drawing on six theoretical traditions, from the Default Mode Network to Polyvagal Theory, The Pedagogy of Rest assembles the scientific case for intentional pauses at every scale of education: the seconds of wait-time after a question, the minutes of wakeful rest and movement, the protected hours of recess and sleep, and the institutional rhythms that sustain teachers across a career. The result is a new definition of rigor, measured not by how busy a classroom looks, but by how deep and durable its learning truly is.
