Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

This collection centers on artists who wake to a genocide - and answer it with creation. It follows seventeen artists in Gaza, Palestine whose work is made not in safety, but in the presence of fear. For them, art is the absence of fear - yet fear is the condition they wake to, work through, and survive. Their materials are whatever remains. Their studios are unstable. Their homes are rubble. And still, they paint, write, and build images that refuse to disappear. For them, art is not escape. It is record. It is proof of what the world tries to erase.Through their distinct styles and unbroken voices, these artists reveal a truth the world has tried to look away from: that even under siege, creativity refuses to die. Their stories and images cut through distance and denial, insisting on being seen. Their art documents a people whose cultural richness has endured decades of oppression.Woven through these stories is original spoken word by The MemoryCollector, a voice that confronts the harsh realities of colonial power and oppression with direct, piercing clarity. These pieces do not soften. They aim to awaken, to disrupt, to make the reader feel the world as it is, not as it pretends to be. The book takes its name from one of these pieces: I Am Gaza. Each page holds a story of hope surrounded by destruction, beauty rising from rubble, and dreams that insist on existing. These artists imagine the same life anyone would want, one of safety, dignity, and peace - and they insist on it through every line, color, and gesture. This book is not a tribute from afar. It is a document of presence - raw and unedited. A record of artists who refuse erasure. A reminder that even under siege, creativity does not surrender. This book stands with artists everywhere who continue to create with courage under oppression and conflict. It is a record of survival. A refusal to disappear. And a final assertion that art remains one of the last forms of fearless truth.
