Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Pieces of Yu is a deeply personal collection of poetry, prose, and memoir shaped around adoption, identity, grief, womanhood, and the lifelong process of becoming whole.Leah Yu O'Bryan writes from the layered perspective of a Chinese adoptee raised in Massachusetts, moving between memory, imagined origin, family history, emotional rupture, and hard won self recognition. The collection opens with the rawness of pain and survival, then expands into the women, places, friendships, losses, and moments of love that helped her rebuild the pieces of herself.Through poems, short reflective essays, fictionalized origin narratives, and emotionally intimate scenes, the book explores what it means to live between two beginnings: the life one was born into and the life one was given. Leah writes about biological motherhood, adoptive family bonds, abandonment, mental health, grief, romantic disappointment, friendship, faith, Cambodia, teaching, and the complicated beauty of being seen.Honest, vulnerable, and visually lyrical, Pieces of Yu is not only a book about adoption. It is a book about the search for language when identity feels fragmented, the people who help hold us together, and the courage it takes to believe that broken pieces can still form a complete life.
