Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

What did Christ accomplish by His obedience, suffering, blood, death, and sacrifice?Systematic Theology - Scripture Defines Scripture, Volume 6: The Doctrine of the Atonement is a Scripture-driven study of the saving work of Jesus Christ. This volume follows the mission of the Son from His being sent by the Father to His obedience, sufferings, agony in Gethsemane, betrayal, condemnation, crucifixion, blood, death, and once-for-all sacrifice.Rather than treating the cross as a vague religious symbol or a single theological idea, Jeff C. Edwards traces the Bible's own language for the atonement. Scripture defines the death of Christ through altar, offering, blood, Passover, priesthood, the Day of Atonement, the suffering Servant of Isaiah 53, the Lamb of God, substitution, redemption, propitiation, reconciliation, covenant blood, forgiveness, justification, and final sacrifice. This volume examines major biblical truths including:The saving mission of the SonThe active and passive obedience of ChristThe sufferings, shame, and reproach of the crossChrist as the Lamb, Priest, offering, and sacrificePenal substitution, imputation, redemption, and ransomPropitiation and the wrath of GodCleansing, reconciliation, forgiveness, and justificationThe curse borne upon the treeThe finality and sufficiency of Christ's once-for-all sacrificeThe atonement as a guardrail for understanding God's glory, love, victory over Satan, and the life of the redeemedWritten from the conviction that Scripture defines Scripture, this book seeks to let the Bible's own words govern the doctrine of the cross. The atonement is not presented as partial, repeatable, merely symbolic, or dependent upon human addition. Christ's work is finished, sufficient, covenant-establishing, sin-bearing, wrath-answering, and eternally effective. The Doctrine of the Atonement can be read as a standalone study for anyone wanting a deeper biblical understanding of the cross, the blood of Christ, and the finished work of redemption. It also serves as Volume 6 in the larger 24-volume Systematic Theology - Scripture Defines Scripture series, where each volume develops one major doctrine while remaining governed by the whole counsel of God.For readers, pastors, teachers, Bible students, and serious Christians who want more than a surface treatment of the cross, this volume offers a careful, reverent, and Scripture-saturated study of what Christ accomplished for sinners. There is no other sacrifice. There is no other Savior. The Lamb was slain, and His work is finished.
