Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

The Holy Spirit must be known as Scripture reveals Him.The doctrine of the Holy Spirit is often surrounded by confusion. Some speak of the Spirit as though He were an impersonal force, a religious atmosphere, or a spiritual feeling. Others define His work mainly by experience, emotion, gifts, or private impressions. Still others react against abuse by neglecting the Spirit's person and ministry almost entirely.Systematic Theology - Scripture Defines Scripture. Volume 8: The Doctrine of the Holy Spirit presents a careful, Scripture-governed study of the Holy Spirit as He is revealed in the Word of God.This volume examines the person, deity, holiness, power, work, and indwelling ministry of the Spirit through the whole counsel of Scripture. It traces the Spirit's work from creation and the prophets to the incarnation, ministry, resurrection, and exaltation of Christ; from Pentecost and the apostolic witness to the Spirit's continuing work in the believer and the church. This volume allows Scripture to define the Holy Spirit-not emotion, not religious tradition, not theological speculation, and not human experience placed above the written Word. The Spirit who inspired Scripture does not lead God's people away from Scripture. The Spirit who glorifies Christ does not draw attention away from Christ. The Spirit who indwells believers does not excuse disorder, pride, deception, or sin. He is the Spirit of truth, holiness, life, promise, adoption, and power.Inside this volume, readers will study:The personhood and deity of the Holy SpiritThe Spirit's names, titles, holiness, and relation to the TrinityThe Spirit's work in creation, revelation, inspiration, and illuminationThe Spirit's ministry in the Old TestamentThe Spirit's work in the conception, ministry, offering, resurrection, and exaltation of ChristPentecost and the coming of the Spirit upon the churchThe Spirit's work in conviction, regeneration, union with Christ, indwelling, adoption, witness, sealing, filling, sanctification, gifts, fruit, and discernmentThe difference between the Spirit of truth and false spiritsThis volume works as a standalone study for readers who want a thorough biblical treatment of the Holy Spirit. It also functions as part of the larger 24-volume Systematic Theology - Scripture Defines Scripture series, where each doctrine is examined in its own place while remaining connected to the whole counsel of God.Volume 8 is written for readers, pastors, teachers, and students who want a serious and text-governed study of pneumatology. It is theological without being abstract, careful without being cold, and practical without reducing the Holy Spirit to experience alone. The Holy Spirit is not an accessory to Christian doctrine. He is the divine Person who inspired the Word, glorifies the Son, applies redemption, indwells the saints, sanctifies the people of God, empowers faithful witness, and seals believers unto the day of redemption.
