Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

WHY DO YOUNG MEN ROMANTICIZE WAR?Men have a predisposition toward collective aggression. Though there are no biological differences among men of different races, there are biological differences between the genders. Men may not be able to keep themselves from wanting to go to war, but women have the power to stop wars and curb young men struggling with their individual masculinities. Is war an adventure, a chance to play a role and not feel excluded, a way to escape boredom and prove their manhood? Are young men drawn by social pressures, a need for identity, loyalty, duty, and honor, hoping to discover manhood? It is 1942 in Kansas City, Kansas. I follow my Uncle Bobbie Dell, who enlisted in the Navy. To do so, I must quit high school and get my parents to sign a waiver. My best friend, Clare McKenna, and her family are against this silly notion. My name is Johnny Bones.A gift of a Naval Academy cadet's cap changes how I view myself and masculinity. I am determined to make the biggest mistake of my life.
