This collection of prayers should not replace spontaneous praying, but serve as kindling for the fire of prayer. For many centuries, Christians of various denominations have found great help in books of prayers which were written outside of Scripture. While those prayer books include many phrases from Scripture, they are not Scripture itself. "Hourly Prayer from Scripture Alone" offers only excerpts of Scripture for every hour throughout the week. The content of this book comes primarily from the Psalms, plus prayers of the New Testament, and excerpts of verses which can be prayed as confessions of faith. Psalms and other passages were edited into an average of 22 verses per hour for an average reading time of six minutes, or a tithe of each hour of the day.
