What if the very thing that makes you different is what people love?Old Rooster Crow knows the answer. From his perch on the power line, he tells the story of Farmer Goodbody's most famous pumpkin.Gracie Gourd, like the rest of the pumpkin patch, is excited for October. Her brothers and sisters are all turning a lovely shade of orange, and guessing who will be picked first this year: the large Butch Stemworthy, the suave Fabrizio O'Range, or the muscular Dirk Vineway. But everyone knows it will be Estelle Pumpskin, the most beautiful pumpkin in the patch. Then Gracie learns she is different from everyone in the patch because she is plaid. Wanting nothing more than to be picked for Halloween, Gracie is sure nobody will ever pick her.A heartwarming story about being loved for our differences.A read-aloud tale for any season, The Plaid Pumpkin will get children to think about teasing, self-esteem and acceptance, and to start discussions about how to treat others with tolerance, kindness and compassion.Sometimes different is just the best thing to be.
