Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Joe is an eight-year-old boy who treasures long summer breaks and, when school is in session, carefree afternoons. During his academic reprieves, Joe spends his free time uncovering life's secrets while fishing with Grandpa Blackburn, as well as forging friendships and exploring his hometown of Baytown, Maryland on foot, skateboard and bicycle.Though he'd prefer a journey to find gold in an old, abandoned mine somewhere out west, or to be adopted by a lost tribe of natives in the forest across the street from his house, Joe's adventures are often inadvertent, like the time he's stranded out of town with no way home, or when he indirectly causes a small forest fire. Sometimes, they're mishaps caused by following the orders of the adults in his life, like vomiting in public and sleeping in a stranger's house. To save himself from the consequences of his poor decision making, and his family members from embarrassing truths, Joe puts his lying skills, which he learns by observing grownups and masters through practice, to good use. From corduroys and turtle-neck sweaters in the winter, to tank tops and knee-high, striped tube socks in the summer, while Kiss and Lynyrd Skynyrd play on the radio, The Incredible Hulk airs on Friday nights and The Wonderful World of Disney runs on Sundays, Joe's Adventures and Lies is a snapshot of boyhood, middle-class American life and pop culture in the late 1970s.
