Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Do you struggle with guilt, shame, fear, and regret? If you're human, the honest answer is "yes."These sources of pain in our lives can't fully be fixed this side of heaven. But we can confront the false and destructive narratives we've accepted about our sin, our suffering, God, and ourselves.Steve Brown is no stranger to this struggle - and he has the scars and stories to prove it. In this book, Steve candidly shares how God gradually transforms us into the people he intends us to be, why that process is often slow, and why it's so important."I'll be as honest as possible here without losing my job," Steve writes. "I still struggle with the lies and destructive narratives. Frankly, I thought I would have gotten it together by now, or at least more than I have. It just didn't happen. The truth is that I am a sinner, and my sins aren't popcorn sins. I've been shamed and have repeatedly shamed others. I have a string of regrets you wouldn't believe. And I'm often scared spitless."That being said, he's still here. Bloodied and wounded, sure - but an old survivor who made it through with a fair amount of joy, freedom, and success.Across fifteen chapters, Steve takes on the lies that keep us stuck, including: - The Lies That Charm Us - "God's in his heaven, and all is right with the world"- The Lies That Define Us - "You're ugly, and your mother dresses you funny"- The Lies That Terrify Us - "Be afraid . . . be very afraid"- The Lies That Manipulate Us - "God told me to tell you . . ."- The Big Lie - "God is angry at you . . . with reason"If you're tired of self-help theology and "do more/try harder" messages, there's even more good news behind the Good News: God's Not Mad at You."Steve is a brilliant, witty, hilarious curmudgeon whose reverent irreverence is a truth-seeking missile that lands with tender care and profound generosity. Few books possess the ability to tell the truth while inviting you to howl in laughter, weep in sorrow, and rise with more hope than you could imagine."-Dan B. Allender, Ph.D., Professor of Counseling Psychology and Founding President, The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology
