Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

I grew up Southern Baptist in the Midlands of South Carolina, where I learned to think of this world as secondary, evolution as false, and heaven as home.Liberal Religion for Earthlings is about learning to see this planet as stranger, older, and more astonishing than I had been taught to imagine-and asking what that new way of seeing requires of us.We now know that every living creature on Earth shares a common ancestry. We have seen our planet from space, mapped the tree of life, discovered the intricate relationships that sustain forests, and begun to glimpse the very different perceptual worlds inhabited by other animals. Yet many inherited religious stories still assume that our deepest belonging lies somewhere beyond this world.Drawing on evolutionary biology, ecology, contemplative practice, and more than two decades of ministry, J. Carl Gregg asks what changes when we take our earthly belonging seriously-from who we are and how we live to what we owe those who come after us.We belong to a living world. What we do with that belonging matters.
